Old Christmas Superstitions Among West Slavic People
A. Sutherland - AncientPages.com - The distinct character of Christmas Eve, both day and night, has been thoughtfully preserved in enduring folk traditions.
These customs serve as a powerful reminder that this special time symbolizes a lasting connection of all generations, inspiring us to cherish the traditions and memories that unite us.
In this special atmosphere, it is believed that on Christmas Eve at midnight, when Christ enters the world, and the winter solstice occurs, strange things happen in nature. Among ancient beliefs was the notion that flowers wake for a moment beneath the snow.
Also, water in local wells and streams could develop miraculous healing properties, transform into honey, and even into shimmering liquid gold and silver. Other Christmas folk tales say that the animals kneel by the crib to honor Christmas and speak in human voices on this one magical night.
