A. Sutherland - AncientPages.com - It is one of the largest and best-preserved Neolithic dolmens in Brittany. Known in English as the Fairies' Rock, its original French name is La Roche-aux-Fées. The dolmen, dated between 3000 and 2500 B.C., is a remarkable stone construction with forty to forty-two stone blocks, the heaviest weighing about 45 or 50 tons.
With dimensions of 19.50 meters in length, 6 meters in width, and 4 meters high, this ancient structure invites us to ponder the ingenuity and purpose behind such a monumental feat. Experts continue to puzzle over the techniques used in its construction.
This shale-covered alley, consisting of four chambers, holds many secrets yet to be uncovered. While scientific investigations into the structure may be limited, we can embrace the enchanting tales passed down through time. According to legend, the stones were "brought there by fairies," the tomb's name comes from them, as these creatures were believed to have built it.
