Nue – Shape-Shifting Evil Yokai Transforming Into A Black Cloud In Japanese Folklore
A. Sutherland - AncientPages.com - The Nue is a mysterious shape-shifting creature referred to in Japanese literature since ancient times. It is a yokai, a weird, mysterious creature that can take many forms. They are commonly associated with folklore, especially with small villages, old, abandoned cities, or deserted mountain regions.
According to ancient Japanese beliefs, the creature's habitat is unknown. It can only be observed in the sky, accompanied by black clouds. In myths and legends, the Nue is described as a chimera. It has the head of a monkey, the body of a “tanukie”( Japanese raccoon dog), and the feet of a tiger. However, most probably the Nue originates in China and was believed to be a bird of some sort.
The Nue has a peculiar appearance, but it is not the only thing that makes the creature unusual.
