Bertrand du Guesclin: ‘Eagle Of Brittany’ Brave, French Commander And His Clash With Sir Thomas Of Canterbury
A. Sutherland - AncientPages.com - Bertrand du Guesclin distinguished himself in the Hundred Years ' War, winning many victories and recovering from the English large parts of Brittany and Guienne, a historical region and former province of southwest France.
The region passed under English control through the marriage of Eleanor of Aquitaine to Henry II of England in 1152. However, it was later reconquered by France in 1453.
He became famous for his bravery and was regarded as the national hero of France, for whom several statues were erected. Bertrand did not have a happy childhood, mainly because he learned to hate his violent father early.
