Were The Knights Templar Guilty Or Innocent Of The Crimes Laid Against Them?
Ellen Lloyd - AncientPages.com - There are many historical books and movies about the Knights Templar, yet mystery surrounds nearly every aspect of their story.
In just 200 years, the Knights Templar created the most important Christian organization in the world. Admired and feared, the knights fought in the name of the Christian Cross, eliminating infidels and heretics.
The Knights Templar gained significant fame and glory through their battlefield successes in the Holy Land. This success led to substantial wealth, which often attracted jealousy and resentment from others.
As their influence and financial resources expanded, many monarchs and even the Pope found themselves indebted to them. This situation made it challenging to resolve these debts, turning the Knights Templar into a problematic entity for those in power. In the early 14th century, they faced accusations of serious crimes, resulting in their sudden and dramatic suppression.
Many historians have tried to determine whether the knights were really guilty of these crimes or were framed by King Philip IV of France and Pope Clement V.
