Pharaoh Menkaure – Egyptian Ruler Who Tried To Outsmart Fate
A. Sutherland - AncientPages.com - During the reign of Khufu and Khafre, Egypt suffered severe disasters. Temples were closed, and Egyptians—free citizens and enslaved people—worked day and night building pyramids for their rulers.
Pharaoh Menkaure significantly improved people’s situation by opening the temples, easing restrictions on those exhausted by poverty, allowing them to work in their fields, and offering sacrifices. He was considered the most righteous ruler of all. The Egyptians loved him and did not know how to thank the gods for sending them such a just, kind, and intelligent pharaoh.
However, Menkaure was struck by heavy blows of fate, and disasters caught up with him. Then came the prophecy he feared.
