Visionary Irish Hero Fionn Mac Cumhail Who Led His Fearsome Fianna Warriors Into Legend
A. Sutherland - AncientPages.com -The legendary Irish hero, Fionn mac Cumhail, stands out as the leader of the fearless Fianna, an elite band of hunters whose exploits illuminated the 3rd century AD during the reign of the High King of Ireland, Cormac mac Airt, as celebrated in Irish tradition and medieval legend.
The stories of Fionn and his heroes are as old as the Irish hills, but their adventures remained unwritten until the dawn of the early Middle Ages. Before that, they were only widespread orally.
When the Irish Gaels (called Scotti) infiltrated into the West of Scotland in the first century A.D., they took with them the wonderful tales of Fionn mac Cumhail. Finally, these stories became as much a part of Scottish Highland folklore as they were of Irish folklore.
