Hot-Tempered Shield Maiden Freydis Eiriksdottir’s Unusual Adventures In Vinland And Greenland – Trouble Followed in Her Footsteps
Ellen Lloyd - AncientPages.com - If you had the misfortune of crossing Freydis Eiriksdottir's path today, it would be wise not to mess with her. To say she was wild and uncontrollable is almost an understatement. She was an unpredictable Viking warrior woman who could strike fear in even the most courageous men.
Although the exact date of Freydis's birth is uncertain, it is believed to be between 970 and 980 AD. As the daughter of Erik the Red, renowned for his colonization efforts in Greenland, Freydis carved out her own legacy through tales recounted in Norse sagas.
Her ventures across Vinland and Greenland are extraordinary, filled with deceit, failure, chaos, and even murder - suggesting that turmoil was never far behind her. Her encounters with Native Americans were incredible, to say the least.
