Is The Sacred Irminsul Symbol Of The Saxons Linked To Yggdrasil And God Odin?
Ellen Lloyd - AncientPages.com - Irminsul was undoubtedly a sacred symbol for the Saxons, an ancient Germanic tribe inhabiting the area of present-day Schleswig and the Baltic coast. Historical sources describe Irminsul as a tree trunk set up in the open air, serving as an important religious monument.
Scholars have long debated whether there is a connection between Irminsul and Yggdrasil, the Norse tree of life, and whether there are possible links among the Saxon god Irmin, the Norse god Odin, and Irminsul itself.
Historians continue to face challenges in answering these questions. Investigating the mystery of Irminsul is particularly difficult because the tree's original site no longer exists, limiting the available evidence and complicating research.
