Mysterious Fossilized Antarctic Forest May Offer Evidence Of The Great Flood – But Some Facts Speak Against This Theory

Ellen Lloyd - AncientPages.com - Scientists think fossilized trees in Antarctica’s Transantarctic Mountains may offer evidence of the Great Flood.

The fossilized trees in Antarctica, discovered by a team of scientists led by Erik Gulbranson, a paleoecologist at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee raise a number of unanswered questions.

The story of the Great Flood can be found among all ancient cultures.

The story of the Great Flood can be found among all ancient cultures.

According to researchers, our planet suffered a catastrophic global event in which 95 percent of the species on Earth became extinct. What caused the destruction is unknown, but scientists speculate this massive die-off was caused by greenhouse gas emissions from volcanoes, which raised the planet’s temperatures to extreme levels and caused the oceans to acidify.

Antarctica's Fossilized Trees And The Great Flood  Raise A Number Of Questions

Obviously, something horrible happened in the distant past and the discovery of Antarctica’s fossilized forest is a subject of interest to several scientists.

One of them is Dr. Tim Clarey, a geologist from the Institute for Creation Research (ICR), who thinks this discovery offers evidence of the Biblical Deluge.

“This discovery should be no surprise to those who take Genesis as literal history. These discoveries demonstrate that a much warmer global climate existed in the pre-Flood world,” Dr. Clarey said.

Dr. Clarey described a different series of events that led to the fossilized remains.

According to him “these trees were buried rapidly during the global Flood described in Genesis “Temperate and tropical plants and animals were caught up and quickly buried in the ash, mud, and sand that engulfed them in this cataclysmic event.”

Dr. Gerald Schroeder, an Orthodox Jewish physicist with a Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) has a slightly different opinion. He doesn’t question the Great Flood mentioned in the Bible, but he doubts the fossilized trees in Antarctica offer evidence of the event.

“This scientific discovery has nothing to do with the region so it has nothing to do with the Biblical flood story. The flood certainly happened, but it did not destroy the entire world,” Dr. Schroeder said.

Scientists say the prehistoric forest on Antarctica existed long before the dinosaurs roamed the Earth. About 280 million years ago it was rapidly buried in volcanic ash, which preserved it down to the cellular level. The age of the forest alone speaks against the Great Flood theory because it is highly unlikely the Deluge happened so long ago.

Other Evidence Of The Great Flood

Many people associate the story of the Great Flood with the Bible.

However, ancient cultures all across the world have myths and legends describing a time in the distant past when a horrifying Deluge wiped all almost all life on Earth.

The story of Noah’s ark is not just a Biblical story. Noah was known under a different name in India, among ancient Egyptians and Native Americans, just to mention a few cultures.

The truth is that except for Antarctica there is not a single continent whose population is not familiar with the story of the Great Flood and Noah’s escape.

The ancient myth of the Great Flood turns out to be true.

The ancient myth of the Great Flood turns out to be true.

An ancient Chinese legend tells of how many years ago a great flood swept over the country. Villages for miles around were swallowed by the huge waves and many people and animals died. Trees, plants and buildings were totally destroyed. Yet a king arose out of the destructive floodwaters. By dredging of the flooded lands, he founded the Xia dynasty that would live on centuries. Scientists have now found evidence that this ancient Chinese legend is true and this cataclysmic event did indeed happen.

A team of archaeologists and geographers, led by Qinglong Wu at Peking University, in Beijing, China has discovered sedimentary evidence that confirm the ancient Chinese flood myth.

Another interesting discovery was reported from Iraq. A British archaeological team from the Field Museum and Oxford University conducted excavations between 1923 and 1929 in Kish City, 80 kilometers (50 miles) south of Baghdad. Since then, no other excavations have been made in the city, which dates back 5,000 years.

The visible ruins of the ancient site have been covered by sand dunes and mounds. According to archaeological records, Kish City survived the Great Flood that happened some 7,600 years ago and was mentioned in Jewish, Christian, and Muslim scriptures.

One scientist says he has discovered evidence indicating that the ancient city of Petra was destroyed by a Great Flood.

There are many archaeological discoveries that suggest the Great Flood was a real event.
