Svarog: God Of Cosmic Fire And Ruler Of The Sky In Pre-Christian Slavic Pantheon
A. Sutherland - AncientPages.com - Svarog (“Very Hot”) is one of the most important deities in the Slavic pantheon. He is the Slavic god of celestial fire and patron of blacksmiths, and the one whose existence is confirmed in both Western and Eastern Slavic beliefs. His name is related to the Sanskrit 'svar' (meaning “bright,” “clear,” or “shining”).
He is revered as the Supreme Heavenly God, eternally at rest, yet masterfully guiding the flow of Life and Universal Order while governing the World of Yav—the four-dimensional realm of physical beings. With great wisdom, he entrusted this world to Perun, God of Heaven and Lightning.
According to cherished beliefs, it is said that when Svarog awakens from his slumber, it will mark the end of the world. Svarog’s dominion over the sky and fire—and his association with the Sun—reflects his profound significance in ancient Slavic culture.
