Circe: Powerful Divine Greek Sorceress Who Mastered Healing, Miracles And Transformed People Into Animals
A. Sutherland - AncientPages.com - One of many impressive and colorful figures in Greek mythology is Circe, a divine witch and goddess of incredible power. She could predict the future and transform people into animals. Circe was also a shape-shifter and performed cleansing rituals.
She could change the weather, knew about healing herbs, and was skilled at spinning. Although Circe performed many miracles, she was not immortal.
Daughter of Helios and Perse, an Oceanid, Circe was one of many divine magicians in her family, including Ariadne, Pasiphae, Angitia, Medea, and Hekate.
Homer wrote that her eyes, radiant and brilliant, blaze with the very light of her father, Helios. Apollonius of Rhodes intensified this image, describing her golden eyes as shooting out dazzling rays, a mark she shares with all descendants of the sun god.
