Enigma Of Étienne Le Ray – Unusual Vagabond Prophet Nicknamed Nostradamus Of Brittany
Ellen Lloyd - AncientPages.com - No one knows his real name or date of birth and death. His entire life is shrouded in mystery. Some doubt he existed, yet his reputation and influence were remembered more than two centuries after he vanished.
Most are familiar with Michel de Nostredame (or simply Nostradamus), a French astrologer and physician whose prophecies earned him fame and a loyal following during his lifetime, but have heard of another enigmatic man who is sometimes referred to as Nostradamus of Brittany.
We know plenty about Michel de Nostredame, but we possess very little information about Nostradamus of Brittany, whose real name may have been Étienne Le Ray, or Er Roué Stevan, sometimes referred to as King Stevan.
Étienne Le Ray is said to have lived during the reign of Louis XV, the King of France, from 1 September 1715 until he died in 1774. How Étienne Le Ray gained popularity is still debated, but he was a very unusual character whose behavior baffled anyone he came in contact with.
It is believed Étienne Le Ray was a vagabond, and he wandered from place to place without a fixed home. He probably earned money as a beggar, but how could a man who couldn't read, write or speak French become so famous?
