Was The Legendary Tree Of Life Located In The Grove Of Eridu?
Ellen Lloyd - AncientPages.com - Our quest for the legendary Tree of Life takes us to a place in Mesopotamia that is sometimes referred to as the Grove of Eridu.
The Grove of Eridu is one of the most ancient forests often mentioned in Assyrian tablets. According to Babylonians the Garden of Eden, where the legendary Tree of Life grew was located in close vicinity of this mysterious place.
Was the legendary Tree of Life located in the Grove of Eridu?
The ancient city of Eridu (present day Abu Shahrein, Iraq) was long considered the earliest city in southern Mesopotamia. Many scholars still maintain Eridu is the oldest city in the world.
Located not far from the ancient city of Ur, Eridu was one of the most magnificent Sumerian cities with plenty of splendid temples and ziggurats. Many oft these buildings were made out of mud brick and built on top of one another. In Sumerian mythology, Eridu was originally the home of god Enki, who was known by the Akkadians as Ea.
